Common questions
Any standard NFC tag readable by iPhone — NTAG213, NTAG215, NTAG216 are the most common and are widely available as inexpensive stickers, keychains, or buttons online. Talking Tags doesn't require any special hardware.
Talking Tags works on any iPhone that supports background NFC tag reading — iPhone XS and later, running the latest two major versions of iOS. Our App Store listing has the precise compatibility list.
No. Talking Tags doesn't have user accounts. Your library is stored on your iPhone and synced through your existing iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit framework. There's nothing to sign up for and nothing to remember.
Yes — VoiceOver is the primary way the app is designed to be used. Every control, label, and screen has been written and tested with VoiceOver in mind. Dynamic Type, Reduce Motion, and high-contrast modes are also supported.
Each tag is linked to an entry in your private library, so another phone won't recognize the description without the same library. If you'd like to share a labeling scheme with a family member, both people can install Talking Tags and re-tag the same object — sharing across libraries is on our roadmap.
All your tag data is stored locally using Apple's SwiftData and synced privately via CloudKit to your own iCloud account. Comet Associates never sees your data, never collects analytics, and has no servers of its own. See our Privacy Policy for the full picture.
See Manage Your Data for step-by-step instructions for clearing your library from the app and from iCloud.
Talking Tags is free to download and use, with no ads. The free version includes core labeling functionality and will stay free. In the future we may offer optional paid features that unlock additional capabilities.
Please email us with as much detail as you can — what you tried, what you expected, and what happened instead. Bug reports from blind and low-vision users are especially valuable.
